Election Observation Mission presents preliminary report on Turks and Caicos Islands General Election

The Election Observation Mission to the Turks and Caicos Islands, run by the British Islands and Mediterranean Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, has published its preliminary report on the General Elections of 15th December 2016. The voting and counting process was assessed positively by observers in all polling stations visited. The polling officials acted professionally, and appeared to be dedicated to their public service. The observers have produced some initial observations and recommendations to try and make the process more efficient for future elections. Further such recommendations will be set out in the Mission’s final report, to be published within two months.

CPA UK supports first Global Tax Transparency Summit

The Global Tax Transparency Summit, hosted by the UK Public Accounts Committee (PAC), brought together parliamentarians and delegates from around the world to discuss tax transparency and the prevention of tax avoidance. The Summit, supported by a consortium of organisations including CPA UK, consisted of a series of plenary discussions looking at a range of issues from global cooperation on tax transparency, to the impact of tax abuse on the developing world.

Visit by Committee Chairs from Parliament of Sri Lanka

Tuesday 24 January 2017

CPA UK, in partnership with Westminster Foundation for Democracy, will host a delegation of committee chairs from the Parliament of Sri Lanka for a three-day programme. It will focus on select committee practice and procedure in the UK and Sri Lanka, and aims to build the capacity of the committee chairs and senior parliamentary officials to effectively fulfil their responsibilities and respective committee mandate.
