Between 03 - 07 March 2025, a CPA UK parliamentary delegation travelled to the National Assembly of Nigeria for a programme focused on women’s political representation, global health and gender-based violence (GBV). The delegation also had the opportunity to travel to Lagos to engage with Nigerian NGOs and civil society organisations to understand the response to GBV in Nigeria, as well as for meetings with businesses on UK-Nigeria trade.
This visit was timely, especially with regard to women's political representation. The UK delegation had the opportunity to learn more from Nigerian parliamentarians about the Special Seats Bill, which is currently under consideration in Nigeria's National Assembly.
This visit also follows a recent CPA UK visit of UK parliamentary officials to the National Assembly in July 2024 which built connections between committee clerks and officials in Nigeria and the UK.
