CPA UK hosted the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis of Maldives, Hon. Ahmed Nazim from Monday 2nd December to Thursday 4th December.

He visited Westminster with fellow MPs and parliamentary staff.  

This was the first time a Deputy Speaker from the Republic of Maldives has visited the UK Parliament through CPA UK, since it rejoined the Commonwealth in 2020.

The delegation discussed parliamentary processes in the following areas:

• Cross-party collaboration and experiences of being a parliamentarian 

• Women’s parliamentary participation and leadership 

• Scrutiny of climate policy and climate resilience 

• Digital infrastructure in parliaments 

• Parliamentary ethics and standards 

• Public Accounts Committees
