Modern Slavery Project bilateral visit to Uganda

Published 18 September 2018

From 3 – 6 September, CPA UK sent a delegation to Kampala, led by Rt Hon. David Hanson MP, to meet parliamentarians from Uganda and to discuss efforts to curb modern slavery, human trafficking and forced labour.

Hon. Herbert Ariko MP of Uganda has been actively involved in CPA UK's Modern Slavery Project and as a result has been inspired to introduce a Private Member's Bill that will strengthen and consolidate existing laws in Uganda related to modern slavery.

CPA UK’s delegation also included Parosha Chandran, the UK's leading anti-slavery lawyer and winner of the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Hero Award. Mr Hanson MP and Ms. Chandran shared their perspectives on efforts to address modern slavery-related crimes in the UK in order to assist Ugandan parliamentarians in strengthening current legislation.
