CPA UK has published its report on the CPA UK & UNESCO Caribbean AI Workshop, held in Anguilla in June 2026.
This programme brought together parliamentarians from across the Caribbean and the UK to deepen their understanding of AI technologies and to consider what the ethical adoption of AI means in practice for their legislatures. The Workshop was delivered in partnership with UNESCO Caribbean, ParlAmericas, and the National Assembly and Government of Anguilla. It involved multiple contributors from across the region.
The Workshop explored a broad range of AI-related topics, the following of which were of particular interest to the delegation:
- The adoption of AI in parliaments was a key focus, most notably to modernise Hansard and digitise parliamentary databases, and delegates shared their respective legislatures’ approach to this. This included a demonstration from Anguilla-based company Evoluut.AI on their AI-powered Hansard system for the Anguilla House of Assembly. Personal capacity-building was also addressed.
- Ethical issues surrounding AI, including the technology’s impact on gender equality, climate resilience and accessibility. The UK delegation heard from Caribbean Members on the critical priority of climate change for many in the region and the juggling of priorities in this regard.
- Approaches to digital sovereignty on a national, regional and Commonwealth-wide level. The importance of Caribbean digital sovereignty was raised throughout and included discussion on shared AI infrastructure, regulation processes, and AI-focused regional networks. Delegates identified the shared opportunities and challenges brought by AI for parliaments across the Commonwealth, particularly in relation to regulation, online abuse, and digital access and inclusion.
