Australia Outward Delegation 2026 Report

Published 23 April 2026

CPA UK has published its report on the UK parliamentary delegation visit to Australia. The programme was split between Canberra and Sydney, and included engagements in the federal parliament, as well as external meetings organised through the British High Commission.

The visit discussed a variety of topics of shared interest to the UK and Australia, most notably:

  • Shared foreign policy interests, including the AUKUS submarine pact, as well as both countries relations with China and the USA, and areas for potential strengthened cooperation between the UK, Australia, and other ‘middle powers’ in Europe and the Pacific.
  • Approaches to public health, including the successes and challenges Australia has faced in implementing it’s ban on social media for under 16s, in light of debates around adopting a similar measure in the UK.
  • Parliamentary and democratic practices, including the administration of parliament, induction of new members, and relationships between national and devolved legislatures.
