CPA UK was invited to deliver a Public Accounts Committee Workshop for the People’s Majlis in the Republic of The Maldives.

The programme focussed on the work of Public Accounts Committees and sharing good practice in parliamentary scrutiny. The delegation also took part in a series of diplomatic meetings while in-country.

The Maldives recently re-joined the Commonwealth on 1 February 2020, becoming the 54th member state of the Commonwealth. The Maldivian PAC participated in the Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees (CAPAC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August 2019. Following this event, Hon. Mohamed Nashiz MP, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) requested a similar workshop for committee members in The Maldives.

During the ongoing pandemic, safety considerations and travel restrictions led to this programme being delayed several times.
