Breakfast Briefing: Is the Commonwealth Stonewalling on LGBTQ+ Rights?

09 July 2019

Venue: CPA Room, Houses of Parliament

Organised in partnership with the Commonwealth Equality Network (TCEN), CPA UK will be hosting a breakfast briefing session to coincide with London Pride and the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall riots to look at the status of LGBTQ+ rights across the Commonwealth. An expert panel will come together to look at why progress across the Commonwealth has been so slow, why in cases like Brunei there has been a backwards trend towards greater criminalisation.

How effective is the Commonwealth at tackling this issue head-on, what impact will the next Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth have and can more be done to achieve positive change?

To access the CPA UK Room, please pass through the airport-style security at the Cromwell Green entrance to the UK Parliament and walk into Westminster Hall. In the middle of the hall there are stairs on your right-hand side. Please climb these stairs and you will find the CPA UK Room on your left-hand side. Due to possible long queues, it is advised that you leave at least 20 minutes to enter the UK Parliament.

The programme will run as follows:

  • 09:00: Refreshments and networking
  • 09:30 - 11:00 Panel discussion
