24 April 2019

Venue:

The Commonwealth is home to 640 million young people who are increasingly influenced by popular culture and social media.

This event will look at the influence popular culture and social media have in engaging young people in politics. It will be an evening conversation with the Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, Tracy Brabin, who will be interviewing Ghanaian celebrity actor and political activist, John Dumelo.

Prior to entering politics, Tracy Brabin was an actress and television writer, having appeared in several British soap operas, including Coronation Street, EastEnders and Casualty. Her current role as Shadow Minister for Early Years looks at issues such as children’s rights.

John Dumelo is a household name across West Africa. The first ever Ghanaian to hit a million likes on facebook, besides his acting, John is also known for using his platform to engage young people in politics, with his large following on social media. He has recently also declared his interest in running for parliament in Ghana’s next election.

The event will take place from 6pm – 8pm on the 24th of April and will be hosted by The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK, in the Houses of Parliament. Please RSVP on eventbrite here.
