Wednesday 04 February 2015 to Friday 06 February 2015
Venue: Houses of Parliament, London
In 2015, CPA UK joined the UK Houses of Parliament in marking a number of major anniversaries: 800 years since the sealing of Magna Carta and 750 years since the De Montfort Parliament, both significant milestones in the development of the institution of Parliament and democracy as we know it in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth.
In support of these international commemorations, CPA UK held a conference entitled 'Human Rights in the Modern Day Commonwealth: Magna Carta to Commonwealth Charter,'3-6 February 2015. The programme brought together nearly 50 Commonwealth parliamentarians to explore the fundamental importance of human rights and the development of protections for these rights in law from 1215 to 2015. For more information on the conference, please contact us. Delegates who participated in the conference can visit the conference microsite.
CPA UK also held the first event in its annual programme of themed panel discussions on freedom of expression, to give UK parliamentarians and parliamentary staff the opportunity to one specific area of fundamental human rights in detail in advance of the conference.
You can view the press releases and media coverage of the event here under the section "press links".
